Depression Medication?

I need to know of some depression medication I could take that won't make me gain any weight. Can someone please tell me?

All of the SSRI's initially cause a small bit of weight loss-about 5# or so, but with longer term use (which is indicated in most cases) they all cause weight gain. The only medication that tends to be effective and doesn't cause weight gain (and has the added benefit of decreasing nicotine cravings) is Wellbutrin which is an SNRI. Effexor and Cymbalta are less likely to result in weight gain too as they are both combined SSRI/SNRI and the SNRI sort of balances the SSRI induced weight gain.

Most of them do cause weight gain as I have taken some myself in the past. I finally found a supplement called Sam-e that is sold over the counter and it helps mild depression. It's expensive but worth it to me as it has really helped me more than the prescribed meds.

Try Wellbutrin. I take it and have not gained weight at all. My husband has also taken it and did not gain weight. I've been very pleased with Wellbutrin.

depression meds can cause both weight gain or loss. low dose and strength can benefit a decrease in appetite. wellbutrin, effexsor, or other SSRI's can cause anorexia and weight loss.

Prozac is an antidepressant that does not cause weight gain.

I've taken both wellbutrin and zoloft and both of them actually helped me lose weight, but i think it really depends on your specific body type. Its hard, but it gets better....start with one and see where it takes you...talk to your doc if you think you are experiencing negative side effects...

I take lexapro and it works the best. I don't recommend prozac though it made me very drowsy through out the day.

**** I need to start taking depression pills but I dont want to get fat. That will just depress me more. lol
