Honestly, there is a lot of work and expense involved in owning a dog. If you've asked your parents and they have told you 'no', then you're best to accept their decision.

Yes, as the previous poster suggested, show how responsible you are and all that--but also be mature enough to understand that it could possibly be that your family's situation is not compatible with a dog right now.

I didn't get a dog of my own until seven years after moving out of my parents' house. So, be patient and be ready to accept whatever decision they make. =)

Your parents need to want that dog because the possibility is very high that it will end up BEING their dog when you leave for college. That's not fair to the dog. Owning a dog is a lot of responsibility -- and I'm not talking about feeding and walking and grooming. I mean that a dog can live 15 years or longer and it loves you. It looks up to you and depends on you. It worries when you're sad or mad, and misses you when you're gone. No matter how much a dog's allegiance is with the child, or how much the family says that it's the child's dog, the parents have to be committed to that dog in their hearts too, because children grow and change.

If you're really responsible you can accept that, and either discuss it with your parents in that light or wait until you're old enough to be able to make the commitment on your own without big changes like college and apartments etc in your near future.

oh girl !!!
that´s tough! i have experienced that, tell them that you will feed it, walk it by yourself, take it to the vet, play with it, etc: that is the standard speech for the parents.
If they´re not convinced, then you just have to look REALLY interested in having a dog, get home and do your homework before anything else that you plan to do, do your housechores(if you have any) , look responsible enough for having a dog.

VERY IMPORTANT !!! :
If you convince them of having a dog, I suggest you to get the things needed first, get the bed, some toys, food bowls, etc before getting your the pet.
If you are looking for a puppy, then go to an animal shelter and choose a homeless one, dogs without pedigree are oftenly rejected and that is how they end in shelters where , if theyre not adopted, they will be put to sleep.
Besides, there are many advantages in a pedigree lacking dog than in a one with any pedirgee (like beagles, etc) :
Many street dogs know how to cross the street.
They are smarter than house dogs (the pedirgee ones).
They are better guardians.
They are more loyal than house dogs.
Many of them know that CAR + STREET means "follow the white light"
and if you adopt a pet in an animal shelter, you will not have to pay for it !! (his is the part that parents are concerned about the most!!)

Good luck !

TIP :
if you get a puppy, put two or three bottles of warm water (hot TOO warm, haha) under a towel in its bed, this will keep him warm during the first nights in his new home.
You can also put a plush toy that simulates another, bigger dog, the pup will feel protected, if you can´t put a plush toy with the puppy, then put a cloth with your aroma, this way the puppy will understand that YOU = PROTECTION.

take care ! LoL !!!

Ask and then show responsibility by getting information on the dog you want.

Research initial cost, annual vet costs, food, grooming, bedding, etc. Be sure that the breed you want is going to fit you and your families lifestyle, not every dog is for every person. And most of all remember they are fun to have, but they are also a life commitment and require time from you.

I know that I would be much more willing to give the thought serious consideration if my daughter came to me with information in hand rather than just begging and batting her eyes. (Believe me, she's good at that)

Show your parents how responsible you are, and that you work hard doing your schoolwork. You get good grades, and keep up your room, chores. You get my drift? You probably could volunteer at the dog shelter!
