Can polymer clay be used to create an oil lamp or other type of vessel for containing a flame? Or is there a better option for making an oil lamp in a home oven?

What I want to make is an olive oil lamp, like what ancient Greeks made. So I'd need the clay to actually be able to hold olive oil and to be able to handle a flame on a wick.

Hi, I'm new to the group but not to polymer clay. I wanted to tell you that you can make candle holders out of polymer clay as long as the flame is small like a tea candle and does not touch the sides of the holder. I have made many and have not had any problems as long as the flame is far enough away. Also I put sand in the bottom of the holder so if any wax spills out I can just scoop it right out or if I want to use a candle that doesn't have a "cup" around it the sand will hold the wax so I can get it out. Try using translucent clay, it's wonderful to make a holder out of. I usually cover some sort of glass vessel with the clay to make mine with though because you have more control over what you can do.

If you wanted to make an oil lamp, buy a plain one at the discount or hobby store and cover it with the clay in what ever choice of design or colors you like and bake it, then use it as an oil lamp. However, you can't use the oil directly on the clay, it will break down the chemicals in it and dissolve.

I watched someone make a beautiful candle holder out of polymer clay on DIY's Carol Duvall show. Check it out and see if you can get some good ideas out of it.

I hope I helped

Polymer clay melts when it gets warm and can start a fire. Here are some options for clay fired in your home oven or air dried

definite, the main person-friendly technique of having around the difficulty of baking the clay is to start by technique of coming up bulk over the armature. Say case in point you're making an animal; first you create a twine-physique skeleton and then possibly (reckoning on the size) coil some twine around the physique for bulk and then disguise it with tin-foil.
