You can not get AKC papers to the dog unless you can get the owner to call AKC and get a duplicate registration then do an ownership transfer.

Although you can get what is called an ILP number for the dog if you would like to compete in a performance event, ie. Obedience, Agility or Rally.

You can visit http://www.akc.org to find more information on this.

AKC is also now exploring allowing non-registered and mix breed dog to compete in performance events.

I don't think you'll have much luck without proof of transfer of ownership of some sort.

Your best bet would be to contact the AKC and go from there.

Believe it or not they are actually pretty good about responding to e-mail inquiries in a timely manner. My questions have been answered in usually 24 hours or less.

Good luck and congratulations on your new buddy!

You can write the AKC, but unless you can come
up with a lot of information you are gonna
strike out.

I don't think there's any way, unless you get them from one of his previous owners. Why do you care, if he's your best friend? The papers have nothing to do with love.

contact the akc- if you know the original breeder you can have a DNA test done and get your papers, otherwise you sadly can't

You *CAN'T*!!!
You MUST provide a COMPLETE transfer record on the dog since BIRTH!

They *might* allow an ILP for PERFORMACE EVENTS ONLY!The animal MUST BE NEUTERED!
