Does anyone know of a UK pet insurer that isnt a rip off? Because my cat was 16, I had to pay the vet call-out charge and his cremation fees, because it appears that the company doesnt cover cats over 8 years old.......so why did they keep taking my money then??? They also refused to pay for dental work for my six-year old cat. Are thay all rip-off merchants?? I've cancelled my policies now- how do they get away with this scam??

I insured my cat with Direct Line since she was a kitten, she's now ten. Tried to make first claim recently when she needed a couple of teeth extracted, was told they didn't cover dental work and it was in the small print, premiums had also right up so have now changed to RSPCA insurance which seems to cover more - and its cheaper.

I know that there is one company that will cover vets fees for over 8 year old cats, but to be honest, I wasn't sure if the policies were worth it. Of course, if we get a £3000 bill I'll probably change my mind, and yes, we've had a surprise need for a vet and a cremation too which we've paid out for, but I decided to put the same amount of money away each month in premium bonds instead, and I put a bit extra away at the start too. The cat's bonds won £50 one month but you may prefer to put the money in a high interest account rather than gamble on maybe winning something.
Sorry about losing your chum.

Yeah i'm with healthy pets and they are great. Is there no fincial regulator you can contact regarding getting the payments back that you paid to this company for still taking your payments for a cat over 8 years old when they do not cover them, they should have made you clearly aware of this.
Please let everyone know which company you are talking about so other people dont take out insurance with them.

I use Sainsbury for my younger cat, but got my mom to insure my 14 year old with SAGA. They are very good and cover more than Sainsbury's. So when my policy runs out both will be covered with SAGA.
MIght be worth asking an older relative.
From a 21 year old (again) he he

You do not say who your insurer is; I use Pet Plan for my two elderly cats (13&16) and think they are very good. They do limit the starting age for cover to eight years I think, but as long as the insurance has started before that age then they continue to give cover, they just increase the excess payment as the cat gets older, which is reasonable. One of our cats has recently undegone an extensive course of treatment, and right now I can say that the cost of the insurance has definately been worth it.

marks and Spencer insures all ages and for as long as the condition lasts, not only one year (like Sainsbury's does).
Also on one of the options you pay nothing towards costs (most insurance wants you to pay at least 50).
Have a go at the quote below
