Which plane would you rather have, the Diamond D-Jet or the new PiperJet?

The Diamond is not due to be available until mid 2008 and is a five-place airplane with a price tag of $1.38 million with a ceiling of only 25,000 feet

The piper, also not due to be delivered until 2008, is six-seat jet aircraft – with an optional seventh seat –(no lav with the 7 seat configuration) for ONLY
$2.2 million, does 360 knots and altitudes of about 35,000 feet.

If I could afford it, I would choose the Piper for the greater ceiling

It's too early to tell, since none are in production yet. There are several VLJ's due to hit the market between now and 2010. The biggest question yet to be answered is "who will make it to production." Also, without historical safety and maintenance data, it is very difficult to compare them. For now, I would go with the experienced manufacturers like Embraer or Cessna. The Eclipse, Honda, D-Jet and Piper are all exciting to watch and could change the market significantly. Let's hope they are successful. Here is an article on the Eclipse: http://www.jets.com/Jets_PressArticle.aspx?ArticleID=214

Both are hideously ugly. Unfortunately, if Eclipse has taught us anything, it's that the actual aircraft cannot ever duplicate the numbers given by the marketing department. That being said, I'd take the Piper, since it's bigger inside, and it goes higher and faster. Also, as an owner, I know it would be easier to maintain and get parts for.

Diamond.

I would give up one passenger for a 1 million dollar savings.
