If you can afford it money-wise and emotionally-wise, I'd say yes! If you live in the Chicago area or east of that try www.brewbeagles.org they have so many beagles up for adoption of all ages! :D

the death of a pet is tough (i have experienced that MANY times
:-(
i think that you should try to calm down the anxiety after the loss of a close friend (your dog) before getting a new pet, then you can get another one.
It´s not a NEW one, animals are not toys, they´re not produced for marketing, they all are living things!!
I also think that, instead of a beagle, you should try to get a dog from a pet shelter, the dogs without pedigree are stronger, smarter and more loyal than the ones with pedigree because they are used to live in the streets where they have to find food and shelter by themselves.
they know how to cross the streets, socialize with others, and they are awesome guards. there is more benefit with these ones than with a beagle or any other dog with pedigree.
Besides, you will be giving a home to a pet that will thank you forever.
If you still want a beagle, then I accept your decision, but i would rather give a family to a homeless dog than having a beagle who is going to have many other opportunities of good life.
homeless dogs just have one second chance!

I think it would be good for Buddy to have a companion. When you are redy to get another Beagle..then go for it. Instead of a puppy...you might even look into getting an older dog...one who is maybe 2 years or older. You could call your local animal shelter to see if they have any beagles and then ask if you can bring Buddy to see how they get along. I have a beagle and from experience I know beagles get along pretty well with other dogs. My beagle is 16 and she has gotten along with every dog she has met.

Beagles are a pack animal and they don't really do well if they have to spend a great deal of time all alone.
So it depends on how much of the time you are with the one.

Maybe get another type of dog. I had a Peke/Mix, and now I have a Lhasa Mix. Similar, but different. But, also, too, maybe you would start to compare this new dog to your old dog. Each dog has it's own unique personality. Sorry about your loss. Maybe an older dog is better.

If you want another dog then get another dog. Don't do it for the dog you have.
