Yes,they are hereditary... my mom has them, I have them and my youngest has them. All traits are hereditary...freckles, moles, dimples, etc.

I think so, but how weird is this? My grandfather had a dimple in his left cheek, mom doesn't have it, I don't have it, but both my children do! I guess it skipped 2 generations before it was an expressed gene.

BTW, my husband's side have no dimples.

Yup!! One of the few things my son inherited from me was my dimple. :-)

It doesn't mean that your kids will HAVE dimples, but it increases the chances.
