TheKnot.com is a great site, so is marthastewart.com (her wedding magazine has a planning guide in the back, and her website has invitiation ettiquite, depending on what exactly you want to state on your invitiations). Most often, the invitations start with the parents names, requesting the guest's honor at the ceremony of : and then the bride and groom's names. Typically, you include a self-addressed stamped envelope with the invitation, and an RSVP card. You can also include "save the date" cards or stickers, if you wish.
The music can be anything that appeal to the bride and groom; anything from top 40 to classical can be played at your reception, shop around for a dj who's decently priced with a wide selection of music, or if you want something a little more intimate, get a band or musician. I had bagpipes at mine!
Hope this helps! Good luck!

1. Include a response card with the invite.
2. Good music is top 40 and certain classics such as "in the mood" ... and brown eyed girl etc...
3. Look into a hotel and take notes... whatever the bride wants you try to accomodate... you always ask what color linens to choose from and how many people fit at a table ...ie: tables of 10 or 8 etc... so that you can plan the seating arrangements accordingly.
4. Reception is all about the food.
That is it in a nutshell but there is a whole bunch more if you really were planning one... flowers/cake/dress etc..

I found this planning checklist on line http://www.weddinglenox.com/advises/Wedding_planning_scheduling.php.
You can also try their matching system http://www.weddinglenox.com/membersignup1.php that will match you up with local vendors. I tried it and have good result as I only recieved email from vendors according to my request.
One problem I had with my wedding is that it is hard to locate vendors in most website as most likely they group by states and there are too many of them that's too far from me and I have to look at each site to figure out.
The sites I provide above have a easy to use layout to show you pictures, pricing and location in one page plus, you can send out your inquiry for matching vendor to contact you. That save me lots of time to locate the best vendors with the right price.
