It really depends what you want to do with the aeroplane.
Romantics: Merlin engined Spitfire,
World Travellers: Gulfstream G5,
Aerobats: One of the Sukhosi or Extras, even a Pitts
A little warning to someone who is annoying you: A10 Warthog,
Serious performance: The Su 37 is agood choice but the there's always Typhoon II and F-22 Raptor to consider.
Then again a friend of mine has an Aerospatiale Rallye and loves it. There's too much choice!

Without question, the Lockheed F-104 Starfighter. Absolutely the most fun I ever had flying.
For wetdreamdiver: Nah, that's a myth. I dead-sticked one onto China Lake in 65. You've got to hold about 200 knots, but there was a surprising amount of lift in that little 22 foot wingspan. And when that J-79 was running, HOT DOG!!!!

My first choice would be the Chance-Vought F4U Corsair. Fastest piston engine aircraft of World War II.
My second choice would be the North American B-25 Mitchell in any variety.
Third would be the Republic P-47D Thunderbolt
and last would be the A-10 Thunderbolt II or "Warthog"
All great aircraft.

I would love to have a Jaguar. (see my avatar)
The reason? I worked on a Jaguar Squadron for 3+1/2 years and loved every minute there. I fell in love with the "Chisel-Nosed Dagger of Death" It's got such a wonderful personality (any engineer will tell you that machines have personalities). and is the master of low flying... Plus, it looks REALLY mean from the front!
...Also, I know how to repair and maintain the Avionics suite ;-P...
