You may have exposed your card to a magnet at some point, and it erased the stripe.

If you're talking about getting a failure when you try to swipe your credit card, sometimes it's the card, and sometimes it's the card reader.
First, if it happens on many different readers, it's probably the card. Call your credit card company and have them issue you a new card. Cut the old one up by cutting it vertically through the magnetic stripe. Cut it at least 4 times, and try to shred the plastic.
Second, if it's only one reader that's the problem, try a very fast swipe, if you've been swiping gently and slowly. Or ask store personnel for help.

Is it a new credit card? If it is, make sure that you have activated it before you try and use it. Most credit card companies will include a sticker on the front of the card with a number to call in order to activate it.

Hmm, judging from the details you've given I would have to say, I don't have a clue. Perhaps you should try giving some details but, you should probably try checking with the bank that issued the card or the retailer that is declining it.

Have you reached your limit? Is the card from a major logo which the customer accepts? Have you activated the card?
