Like what's a decent free program that I can download so I can rip parts of a DVD to my computer? Or even site that I could rip DVDs from would work, just as long as it's free.

I use a very nifty program for ripping DVDs called Gordian Knot. It will rip the DVD and encode it for you. It has subtitle support and all kinds of other nifty features.
