A large portion of what you are asking is related to the fact of 'How far does one go with 'such and such'. Christianity is not a 'mechanical' thing but usually spiritual (why) thing. (1 Samuel 16:7).

Obviously God isn't talking about if people are beating you or trying to kill you. Jesus was talking about the attitude that we should demonstrate towards people who are antagonistic towards us, even giving us an insulting slap to the face. He didn't say that we couldn't speak up and ask for justice like He did when He was slapped for no reason.
John 18:22 When he had said these things, one of the officers standing by struck Jesus with his hand, saying, "Is that how you answer the high priest?"
23 Jesus answered him, "If what I said is wrong, bear witness about the wrong; but if what I said is right, why do you strike me?"
