- Use compact fluorescent bulbs instead of incandescent.

- Sell your trendy, gas-guzzling land yacht and instead buy a hybrid, a compact, a bike, or a bus pass.

- Recycle paper like it's going out of style.

- Conserve power (turn off the light when you're not in the room, etc)

- Choose to do business with companies who are taking steps to examine their business practices and adjust them to make them more environmentally friendly. Boycott companies who refuse to do this or who otherwise engage in unethical business practices.

- Consume less. Don't waste money on tons of useless, material $hit that you don't need. If possible, re-use and repair old items instead of simply replacing them.

- Write letters to your elected officials telling them how you feel about the issue and encouraging them to take steps to move your country/state/city toward alternative energy solutions and energy independance.

- Visit sites such as http://www.newdream.org or http://www.sierraclub.com for more info and suggestions. Do an internet search; you'll find several other helpful sites in addition to those I've mentioned.

- Try not to pay too much attention to the foolish people who choose to ignore dozens of peer-reviewed scientific journals and published papers and the conclusions of most of the experts in the field, and who instead choose to stick their heads in the sand like an ostrich and pretend nothing is wrong.

Good luck.

Save your money and help fund atmosphereic cleanup machines. Al Gore:

Putting the technology together to start cleaning up and reintroducing new ozone to the atmosphere is possible. The cost and size of this project means taking a long term commitment. I am proposing the biggest cleanup in history. Al, I do not see any proposal that is realistic or proven at any cost, not even Washington can solve this problem. But if every person on earth does his or her share, we may be ok. Never-the-less, I see governments acting like a deer in a car’s headlights and people doing the same thing. The inevitable is almost upon us. Cleanup and change is the only option.
The first cleanup machine starts with a ten billion dollars investment. Ten year later with twenty-five machines operating, these machines will produce enough ozone to replace both holes at the poles. But more importantly, these machines will remove chemicals that deplete the ozone. Beyond making ozone, decreasing the poisons that deplete ozone, these machines reduce the major greenhouse gases and unbelievably we can have all this for fewer than one hundred billion dollars.
Beyond cleaning up our atmospheric mess as I am suggesting, we humans must do a better job reducing or cleaning up carbon monoxide, collecting and storing methane and ethane for fuel, burning less of everything, cleaning up our forests and using more solar insolation. Solar steam electric generators are the type of systems we need and are 90 percent efficient and near 100 percent if heat recovery is used. I believe nearly 30,000 MW are needed in the USA and Mexico over the next 30 years. This opens the door to new electric cars, new construction vital to our way of life, new bullet trains, and these industries produce new high paying jobs. From small scale solar generators on malls, to 2000 acre collector sights, these systems are viable and ready for production. The Federal Government must give up some land, money and have less regulation to help save the planet from disaster.
Al, spreading the message that we can help ourselves is a key to the development of these businesses. Washington can help: the businesses need grants, patents, land and regulations. Congress must create a pollution surcharge. From gas, coal, diesel, wood to cooling towers, from cattle, other ranches to cigarettes, from agriculture burning to airplane passengers, this surcharge can fund parts of these projects and many stationary pollution control devices in general.
Your personal support is very important to getting the atmosphere cleanup started and developing sights for solar generators.

Sincerely,

Well done for not pretending it doesnt exist! Just use as little energy as you can. Recycle and use public transport. And we need more trees! You could buy a section of the rainforest...they do that online, and its you say whether or not its cut down! WE DON'T NEED A AN ATMOSPHERIC CLEANING MACHINE! MACHINES CAUSED ALL THIS TO START WITH!!!! The problem is not a lack of technology...*rolls eys*
Goverment are hushing up this problem as acknowledging it means having to do something, and it will probably cost them money!
Yes global warming and cooling is natrual, but not this kind, we are making it irreversable xx

You have it right when you say the real fight is against global warning instead of global warming.

Global warning is trying to scare people into changing their life and lifestyles for all the wrong reasons. One day, people will wake up to the real science and realize how foolishly they have been taken by this global warning scheme.

This is my new mission so it is now the answer for your Question. "Bring your own Bags." Buy totes made from jute, hemp, cotton, or Bamboo or a combination of them all then use those totes to carry your Groceries and every other purchase you make out to your car. Or if you don't want to ByoB then you can always say no to the Bag all together. I did it all day today and (with out sounding weird) it felt good to say no to the bag. Its not much but over time it will add up to something very big.

The current consensus among climatologists is that most of the global warming - the one degree Celsius increase over the last century - is caused naturally. Only 4 - 8% of it is because of us. So for most of it, there's absolutely nothing you can do unless you can affect the Sun.

For the rest, common sense rules. Don't burn things if you don't need to burn them. This includes gasoline, coal, and anything else that adds carbon to the atmosphere. Mostly, though, don't listen to the people telling you that human beings have caused all this. The Earth is less fragile than most people believe, and we don't understand all that we think we understand about how it works.

There is nothing you can do. Its like stoping the rain you can't do that either. The climate of the earth is always changing, either getting cooler or warmer. 10,500 years ago we were nearing the end of an ice age that had lasted 100,000 years. What caused the global warming that ended the ice age? Probably the same thing thats causing global warming now. Assuming the trend hasn't already reversed and we just haven't noticed it.

-You could question why commercial planes take off half empty or why distribution centers ship one or two pallets of product on a semi trailer or even question why water is shipped from the other side of the world in container ships to cities around the Great lakes also you could ask the PRESIDENT of the USA why he travels during campaigns in a big private jet.-Individual efforts are appreciated but with out a national program of conservation they are but a drop in a bucket. My question is are these car(500 mile type)races every week-end necessary? The SCRIPTURES say God will ruin those ruining the earth.

Maybe if everybody left the refigerator door open once a week....

Seriously, there's nothing you can do about the weather or the climate. Half of North America was under hundreds of feet of ice about 20000 years ago - a blink of the geologic eye. Most of it melted. Why? Global warming. Climate cycles all the time.
