Creatine has some temporary benefit for power atheletes, weight lifters, gymnasts, etc. It does not seem to benefit endurance athletes such as runners. I don't know where a football lineman would fit in this equation.

Usage of creatine for a short term, say two weeks, is not likely to cause damage. The effect of long term usage is still being investigated. Taking the recommended amount of creatine increases the creatine level in you kidneys dramatically. To me, that's risky.

Several studies have shown that caffeine negates any benefit of creatine. That's odd, because some preparations of creatine contain caffeine.

My personal opinion is that your strong body is the result of your good dietary and exercise habits. I also strongly believe that good aerobic training is more important in lifelong heart and lung health than weight lifting. The chief benefit of creatine is to those who profit by selling it.
