i have to take either French or German and i dont know which is easier b/c i want to take the easiest..thanks

I've studied both, and French is 100 times easier! Yes, German and English share the same language family, but German grammar is far more difficult to learn than French grammar (and English grammar, too, for that matter.) That is not to say that French is easy either, though. But if you enjoy reading and grammar in English, you will probably be fine studying French.

Technically you will probably find German easier simply because a great deal of English is derived from German and the structure is similar. French drove me nuts with its mutliple verb tenses etc. French just sounds cooler. German sounds harsh. French is spoke in more places than German though and some of our English words are derived from French too. Do it for what you'll get out of it not just because it's easier.
