Well, I hate to tell you this, but getting a six pack is not easy work. You cannot merely do crunches, or some other ab exercise, and expect to get a six pack. The first thing you need to do is to eliminate fat from your stomach. That involves cardio activity. You should do at least four weekly sessions of cardio (at least 30 minutes per session). People have varying recommendations for the amount of ab exercises and the frequency in which you should engage in them. As for me, I have found less is more; focus on quality not quantity. Abs, like any other muscle, need a rest, as that is when you actually build muscle. While you are working a muscle, you are actually tearing it apart. On rest days your body repairs and results begin to build up. I work abs out two or three times a week, for 10 minutes each time. But trust me, I WORK them. To build a six pack you need to focus on all portions of your abs, not just the "rectus abdominis" (six-pack muscles). I would recommend checking out Winsor Pilates ab workout DVD. I take some of those pilates based moves and mix them with exercises from this link: http://www.runnersworld.com/article/0,7120,s6-238-263-266-9261-0,00.html. Runners need strong abs for stability and running naturally works the ab muscles. Strong abs make for better runners and the exercises included in the article are versatile and can be mixed and matched for results. Another tip: vary your ab workouts. Once again, as with other muscles, your abs will get used to one routine and you will eventually plateau. You should try to mix and match different exercises every couple of weeks. I usually pick seven exercises from the bunch and then switch out a couple of them each workout. This will shock your muscles and help them respond better. Each exercise may work the same muscle but it does so in a different way. That is why you may be able to bike 50 miles without becoming sore, but you run 5 miles and can barely walk the next day! Building up nice abs takes a lot of dedication and requires whole body fitness. But don't become discouraged. Stick to a pratical exercise and eating plan and you will achieve your desired results! Good luck
