Diabetic ones do. This can be a sign of a serious problem. Talk to your vet.

Oh, yes. I know that cats pant, and here's why. Our kitty got in our car without us knowing it. He was in there for about two hours in the hot sun. The poor guy was almost past out. He was panting as a dog, mouth agape, and spittle around his mouth. He was dampened with a soaked cloth, rubbed back opposite the lay of fur. He was given all the water he wanted, at first just mere drops on the tongue. He survived for a total of almost 18 years. That is a very ripe old age for a male Manx,(stumpy.)

Yes, they do... but it usually is not a good sign when it happens. A cat will pant like most animals that has run out of breath (like what happened to your kitten). Unless your cat has been running hard, panting could indicate heart or respiratory distress.

On these occassions I have witnessed a cat pant:

While in labor and giving birth - momma cat was panting occassionally.

I've seen a cat lay in the shade during one of those breezeless Summer afternoons... panting in efforts to cool itself off.

I've seen kittens pant after a hard play of chase and catch. Perhaps they were trying to cool off, also?

Yes, indeed cats do pant.

Yes they can pant. One of the only times I've seen my poor kitty pant was when we moved and she had to ride in the car for about an hour and a half. It was almost like she was having a panic attack. I felt so sorry for her... She panted most of the way there and then for another hour or so. :(

Mine does. When he gets overly warm, nervous or after a hard chase with the laser light. He is a bit overweight, but naturally large by his design and is now getting back in shape. The more I exercise him, the longer he can run before he starts panting and now he hardly ever does it anymore.

It can be a sign of something serious, so check with your vet. For the most part cats don't pant, but they can pant. If you find that your cat is panting alot, that is unusual.

Only if they get REALLY hot. Cats perspire through their paws. The domestic cat's closest ancestors were desert dwellers, so they are well adapted to heat.

I have on occasion seen cats pant in really hot weather (over 40 degrees Celsius).

Yes! It made me laugh hysterically when my cat did it last summer! It was a house cat and me and my sister took it outside(it had just got flea preventors) and it was a hot summer day and my cat panted! it was so funny to see them pant and at first i wondered if it was okay and if it could really be panting! but yes, i witnessed it!

yes, my cat Buster pants all the time after he's really worn out. He will chase his mouse toy and jump and do acrobats in the air! afterwards, he pants. then goes downstairs to get a drink.

yes they do. it rare because they are never active but when they are just going crazy for a while they will start panting. usually they will sit for a while and calm down and if they were really into whatever she was doing well then she will go back to it... or not. as long as they have water and are at a nice room temperature thats just normal... yet rare unless you have a really crazy little kitty.
