Dale Earnhardt senior died at the Daytona 500 in February of 2001. His friend, Michael Waltrip, was almost across the finish line to win, when Dale had the accident and was killed incidently.

Dale Earnhardt die on February 18, 2001 on the last lap of the Daytona 500. He died in turn 4 when he got turned and ran into the wall head on. He may have been pronounced dead at the hospital but they said he died instantly when he hit the wall. I have done research on this subject for one on my english classes and the autopsy person said that he died instanly when he hit the wall.

IT is true that everyone says that dale died at the track on feb 18 2001 but it was in route to the local hospital that he was pronounced dead. He was involved in a last lap crash in turn 4 at Daytona which he hit the wall at a entry angle that was so severe that his belt snapped and his neck snapped as well and broke his neck. He was still medically alive when they pulled him out of the car and put him in the transport to the hospital but on the way he lost all live signs and was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital
