Jeremiah 31 is so often quoted, but what was the actual promise made -- and to whom? Let's go through Jeremiah chapter 31, beginning with verse 31:

31 Behold, the days come, saith the L-RD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah
The first hint of when the new covenant is established is that it is made with both the Houses of Israel and the House of Judah. When did Israel and Judah make this covenant? According to scripture, there was a national *rejection* of Yeshua when He came -- Israel and Judah did *not* make the New Covenant with Yeshua. Yet many Christians assert that the new covenant is now in effect. Impossible! G-d will *only* make this covenant with the Houses of Israel and Judah -- the 'church' cannot usurp this promise and steal it for themselves. The new covenant is still in the future.

I don't know, this sounds true, what do you think?
what about the jews that converted to christianity, dont they count?

God doesn't exist. There is no covenant. You can read whatever you want into the vague "prophecies" in the Bible.

So it was, and still is. Christ came first to the Jews, and some believed and followed, becoming the first Christians. The new covenant was still made, even if the religious factions did not accept or receive it. The gentile Christians were included into this covenant, as attested by the Spirit of God within them, not by any man or religious institution. This is still the case, even today.

that is a messianic passage. there will be a new covenant made with israel when mashiach comes. immediatelt after that verse jeremiah describes the covenant - it will be a covenant in which all israel will obey torah and will have it written on their hearts - they won't have to learn it, they will just know it in their soul.

"Behold, days are coming, says the Lord, and I will form a covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah, a new covenant. Not like the covenant that I formed with their forefathers on the day I took them by the hand to take them out of the land of Egypt, that they broke My covenant, although I was a lord over them, says the Lord. For this is the covenant that I will form with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will place My law in their midst and I will inscribe it upon their hearts, and I will be their God and they shall be My people. And no longer shall one teach his neighbor or [shall] one [teach] his brother, saying, "Know the Lord," for they shall all know Me from their smallest to their greatest, says the Lord, for I will forgive their iniquity and their sin I will no longer remember."

The new covenant has two parts - The faith and testimony of JESUS and the TEN COMMANDNENTS.

It came into effect when God gave his children the Ten Commandments at Mt. Sinai. This covenant was sealed by the blood of the Lamb and is written new upon the hearts and minds of those who LOVE JESUS.

The blood of an everlasting living saviour in heaven atones now instead of a mortal priest using the blood of a sacrificed lamb.

The covenant is the TEN COMMANDMENTS sealed by the new covenant blood of CHRIST.

you dont even have to go that far.

Jeremiah 31 particularly talks about a messianic age.

It says everyone will know G-d and it also says that the walls of Jerusalem will never fall again and the city will last forever.

It also talks about the returning of the Jews to Israel.

the opposite happened right after Jesus.
