Oh and we're running 1 mile. Would a treadmill be the same as track?

If you are not getting enough potassium, you will get more cramps. Start eating two or three bananas per day and get 5 glasses of water a day. Do 3, maybe 5 sprints of 1/10th of a mile each the first day, then 1/8th of a mile the second day. Rest for a minute between each sprint. Increase distance each day.Try to breathe rhythmically while running, and not in time with your footsteps. That would make you breathe too fast. You should not eat alot before running, but just eat balanced meals until you are no longer hungry(not until you are stuffed) When you get hungry again, eat again. There is no reason to eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day at certain times. It's too cookie-cutter for everyones individual metabolisms, and is an antiquated load of bull. Do what makes you feel good and healthy.

You need to drink water before, sometime your cramps may be caused by dehydration. Try run, walk. Just run until you need to walk and then walk until you can run again. You should increase your running and decrease the time you need to walk to recover. By using this method you should be under 14:30 easy. If you goal is one mile, then start by doing the run, walk for one mile. You can increase your distance after about 3 weeks. Your times should come down very fast.

Figure out a mile around your home area. Each night do it. You will get better. I am older and had to do about a mile at 1:00 a.m. and even out of shape I averaged 20 minutes! Most of it was uphill
