Whenever I try to open a downloaded video file for editing, I get the following error message:

[file location/name here] could not be imported. The required codec was not downloaded automatically because the Download codecs automatically check box is not selected in the Options dialogue box.

The problem is, that box doesn't even exist! So how do I check a box that doesn't even exist? How do I fix this?

Try this:
Open Windows Media Player.
Tools -> Options -> Player tab
The box is there in the Automatic Updates section.

Even with the box checked, some codecs may still need to be downloaded manually.
