Baseball King ~
He would have to considered one of the very best. Joseph Young aka Tommy Ryan ran away from home when he was a teenager after he took a beating from his father for stealing. Once out on his own he needed money so he worked at any job he could get, mostly manual labor jobs like working in lumber camps and being young and working in a lumber camp brought it share of fights for Tommy, he became quite the fighter. A man by the name of John McGuire saw Tommy fighting one day and saw a diamond in the rough.
Tommy would fight sometimes 60 or 70 rounds, most if not all of the considered top ten middleweights only fought 15 rounders. This alone should set him apart from everyone else. Known as a boxer puncher who was known to punish his sparring partners, was indeed one tough cookie.
Thanks for the question Baseball King.

Ryan was a great welterweight and middleweight champion with a record of 86-3-6 with 68 kayo's. Nat Fleicsher ranked him as the 2nd greatest middleweight of all time. He was an outstanding boxer/puncher and could easily be placed in anyones' top 10. He was indeed a great fighter.

He had a great record but he would be ranked behind Ray Robinson, Greb, Flowers, Zale, Cerdan, Monzon, LaMotta, and Hagler. Not in any order. So Bluedevil is right, he would be in the top ten all time.
