The origin of the surname Virdi is Italian. Take a look at the following link.

Oh, did you luck out.
Go to rootsweb.com, click on family files, and run Virdi though there. I see files dating back to the 1600's, with a specific place in Italy.
Now.. your challenge, of course, is tracing your lineage to "connect" with those names. I would certainly send an email to the person owning the file, who may have much more data than what is posted.

It's an Italian surname
