I have really bad gums & my doc recommended that I get a sonicare. Well I did and it still bleeds every time I brush. In fact more than it did when I brushed manually, but maybe its just because my gums are so bad? I was just curious how long before til I expect to see an improvment w/my gums.?

With my periodontally involved patients I love having them use the Sonicare brush. It can take anywhere from 2 weeks to even a month. Your gums have to heal. Just like a cut on your skin that needs to heal, the gums need to heal after being taken care of. Make sure you use the brush at an angle on the gums.

We also recommend to rub a slurry mixture of baking soda, salt, and peroxide onto the gums to promote healing.

Hope that helps!

You didn't say how long you've been using it, but I've been using Sonicare for about two years now. I saw a noticeable improvement in my gums and teeth in about three weeks. I'll never go back to manual brushing. You need to make sure you floss EVERY time you brush. That's what will REALLY help your gums.

I just got one of those little instruments of torture. My dental hygenist wants to see me again in three months to see if it's doing the job properly, so that might be a clue. My gums were OK, though, but I guess the hygenist or dentist can tell after three months if the thing is doing its job properly.
