first of all I grew up a baptist and don't tell me they don't because most of my friends who were baptists were taught the same things. Mainly the catholic church is false and they taught me "catholic doctrines" and how false they were until I found out that they twisted the actual beliefs of catholics they didn't even actually know what catholics believe but they taught what their pastor taught them and they accepted it. Most of the people here who criticize catholicism know nothing about it's true doctrines and understandings of the bible and don't even educate themselves but attack them anyways so I'm glad I left you closed-minded people, but because of people like you "christians" with your rude judgments I'm not really sure if god does exist.

Pastor Billy says: sorry to hear of your history and the fact that it has turned you from Christianity. I have to say amen to the first part of your story as I've seen and experienced the same propaganda from non-catholics who attack something otherthan the real Catholic Church.

For Chris R.
Chris I've just answered some of your questions and with the response you've given here I can't understand why you ask the other questions I only hope you are not so closed-minded as your response to this question make you seem.

"Can I get an, Amen?"

Bit of a generalisation that. My parents are protestant. They did say that catholics have sometimes historically taken up doctrines that contradict the gospels - like worshipping Mary and buying salvation by indulgences - but most of the aberrations are historical and have been rectified.

I think that there was a phase when the catholics were trying to enforce their rule by force, protestants often copied them and did the same. It caused hard feelings because of the cruel - deeply unchristian - things done. Eg the murder of the French protestants or Cromwell's treatment of the Irish catholics. I think most christians are coming to accept the gospel position now that religion cannot and should not be enforced at all. But the ill-will due to historical conflicts still abides. It has improved substantially - back in 18C England they used to say that the Pope was the anti-christ!

Gosh, someone is so angry. I'm a Baptist and we are not fed lies about our faith or anyone else's. If a "religion" is a cult, then we owe it to people to tell them that, don't we?

We don't say the Catholic doctrine is false. True, our doctrines are totally different, but how do you know they don't say we have false doctrines? I think you're the rude one coming on here sprewing your hatred, and God does exists and loves you very much. I'm sorry if you felt "misguided," but I'm sure your parents didn't do it intentionally. Give them a break, they're only human.

They don't know any better. That's all they know, they have never explored other beliefs. I've had a pastor tell me about Calvinism, not even close. He completely misunderstood that theology. I feel your pain, I'm not Catholic but I still enjoy going to Mass once in a while.

I tried to resist, but AMEN brother!!

Bishop Fulton Sheen said:

There are not over a hundred people in the United States who hate the Catholic Church. There are millions, however, who hate what they wrongly believe to be the Catholic Church, which is, of course, quite a different thing.

So, if one wanted to convert to "Christianity", exactly how would we determine which of them is telling the truth? Each denomination claims that they have the truth, and each use the same scripture to back it up. How would a non-christian know that "they" are telling lies, or are "false" christians? Are we supposed to roll the dice, and hope that the one we accept isn't the "false" one? Christians condemn non-christians as well as other christians to hell.

If all Christians have the "true" faith, then they are all going to hell, based on the fact that "they" aren't "true" christians, according to the other "Christians". What a mess.

Anyone in their right mind would conclude that none of them have the "truth".

I love my Catholic brothers & sisters dearly because they believe in Jesus Christ as Savior.

However, sometimes I have questions about the Catholic doctrine ....ex, Mariology, etc.....Is it wrong to ask to clarify.....

I agree that outright criticism is usually a sign of ignorance of the Church teaching....however, don't give up....simply give the truth.

Jesus Christ is real and holy and perfectand loves us all more than we can ever comprehend.
Christians on the other are fallable people and more often than not, much to our shame are horrible examples of how a Christian should conduct themselves on a daily basis..
None of us is perfect. We all have sinned and fall short of The Glory of God.
However those of us that have accepted Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Savior, are forgiven.
Amen

Many of us on the other hand have gone so far as to study catholic doctrines as part of college level courses.

So you would be willing to give up your faith in defense of Catholicism which isnt really living in the truth to begin with? What is wrong with this picture?

They taught you that because that is what they believe, that is what many of us believe.

We understand Catholicism perfectly. You say "hail" Mary when you pray, Jesus Christ is the only intercessor needed.

Even though they don't call him God they have elevated the Pope to God like status and treat him as such.

So yes, we know about Catholicism.
