Will it be effective? Only if you enjoy yourself. Exercise-wise it's good. I find it relaxing as long as dogs don't chase me. But I can get pretty stressed out about dogs. Consider where you're biking - take a cell phone to call for help if you need it, but if answering the phone is part of the problem, turn it off before you go and only use it if you need to.
