If you don't know of any free ones, what are some inexpensive but effective financial advisors?

Yes, you can get free one-on-one advice. It depends on what kind of financial advice you want. Since you put this question under the topic of 'Credit', try asking an expert at the National Foundation of Credit Counselors at:

http://moneycentral.msn.com/community/message/board.asp?Board=AskACreditCounselor

They answer questions from 9am - 9pm Eastern time, Monday through Friday. Very educational and friendly.

If you and your credit are under constant attack by attorneys, collection agents, the IRS, your state tax authority and the courts, you'll find many legal experts at:

If you mean professional-level one-on-one advice where someone responds to your specific questions, I don't know of any free ones.

If you're looking for free information that you can apply to your own financial situation, there's quite a bit online. I subscribe to a free newsletter about personal finance that you may find helpful. When you sign up, you also get to download two free ebooks about personal finance and budgeting. It's a great resource.

Financial advice is only as good as the money you pay for it. If it's free, I'd question it if it relates to investment or a membership for investing. If you have questions about how to manage your debt, you can try "Consumer Credit Counseling Services" at the link below.
