how about try talking to him and finding common ground. If you do have enough in common then you can go from their if not then you know. It is ok to approach him and say something like "I'm gonna go get something to eat, wana come?" this is kinda asking him out but its 2007 so wtf. If he buys you food even after you asked him out then he is a proper man.
