The cat probably died a short time later.
He didn't run into your car. You were not paying attention. Cats don't chase cars. Get off your cell phone, get your head out of your butt and drive right. If not for the animals and motorists outside your car, to whom you pose great danger, at least for your child inside the car.

Well, you should have taken the cat to the vet or an animal hospital. That would have taught your daughter a good lesson about taking responsibility and about how to treat a living creature.
At least that way your daughter would have had closure. Rest assured that she'll be asking you for days and weeks about that cat. Whatever happened to the cat we hit? Do you think he's alive? And WHY did we leave him lying all by himself? Was he eaten by a coyote?
Just a bit of advice: Should you ever hit a person (let's hope not though), DO NOT leave them lying bleeding by the roadside.
Have some civic responsibility and teach your child the same.

Yes, I'm sure he is dead. I've had cats my whole life and when I was younger they had to stay outside so I lost 3 from being hit by cars. One died instantly and the other 2 had to be put to sleep due to internal bleeding. Cats are so small they can't withstand a vehicle. I feel sorry for the cat's owner, it's such a horrible thing to find your cat dead in the street. This is now why my cats are indoor only.

poor kitty! the longer you wait, the worse off the cat will be. take him to the vet's, or to somebody else who doesn't mind taking him to the vet's. Do something to stop any blood flow. Obviously he isn't dead if he is still limping. And don't worry about your 8 year old daughter. Just explain it to her, but in a calm way. She's old enough--she'll be fine. You need to save the cat's life. I couldn't tell you if he's dead though, because I can't see him. Look into his eyes, and check maybe for a pulse, if you can. I hope he'll be okay.

I think that you should definitely take him to the vet. The longer you wait, the worse he will become. He will suffer until he finally dies, which isn't really what you want to happen, is it? If he was limping, he was not dead. You should also attempt to find the owner. My cat was hit by a car one year ago and killed. No one tried to contact us until someone found his body, saw our ad in the newspaper, and brought us his body. I didn't want to see him, but at least I knew where he was and what happened to him, and I knew that he wasn't suffering. Please help save this cat from my cat's (actually, his brother's too) fate.

How can we know if he is dead? You didn't even take him to a place to see if he is dead. Upset your daughter? Don't you think you did a bad thing by leaving that poor animal lying on the sidewalk and in pain? shame.

He might not be dead, but if he doesn't move he is. You can burry him you know if he is dead. That might help you with your daughter. If alive PLEASE try your best to heal him or take him to the vet. Good luck with the cat and your daughter

First you should wrap a blanket over it and get it to the vet quickly. don't try to touch it because it could still attack you. try getting it to calm down or you will get completly scratched up. put up found cat signs to look for the owner. it is the least you can do

Did you bring him to the vet's ?
How do you want us to know if he's dead ?
Running over a cat is an accident, but please bring him to the vet's as fast as possible next time - and explain everything to your daughter, she can understand !
