There is this bath stuff, comes in a blue or pink box (possibly other colors that I do not know of) and it is made by Vaseline. It's just powder that you disolve in the bathtub.
It's pretty cheap and available at every drug store I have been in, I just can't remember the name, just that it was Vaseline brand.
Anyhow, this is the stuff you need. It's super slippery, so don't slip in the tub, but soak in this stuff for 10 minutes or so and I swear the hair practically melts off as you shave. It's so easy and super smooth, without bumps or irritation. You can even use it just a few days later with the same results, usually I have to wait about a week or I get too much irritation down there and it looks like crap.
This is the best stuff I have ever found and I would recommend trying it, very close shave. I have used the blue kind and the pink kind, it seems that one worked better than the other, I just can't remember which one. But they are cheap enough, so try both.
I can't say I have tried anything that works better. Just remember to use pretty warm water, dissolve the stuff and relax for about 10 minutes first.

If you can afford waxing do it!
If it's not in your budget here you go.
get an astringent and wipe the area first obviusly not too close to the lips. The astringent opens the pores which will help prevent any red bumps or ingrown hairs. Use a new blade try mens razors like schick quatro or even the new womans quatro it's maroon.
don't use shave creams with any perfumes or dyes cause this might irritate you try aveeno. Also apply some astringent or aftershave after to prevent razor bumps. And your kitty will be smooth as a baby's butt. LOL

1) Soak in the bath for a good 20 minutes first. It will ope 20 minutes first.
2) For me it works best with no soap in the bath. Laying down you have a better angle.
3) After you shave, take a shower and shave your legs. Use the shave gel to go over some of the flatter areas again.
4) After all is said and done, put some cold water on it and cover with an aftershave lotion

I think the best way to shave in that particular area is to use an electric razor the type that you can get wet. I have tried everything to stop the itchy, horribly aggravating irritation that occurs almost immediately after shaving and not one thing has worked. Then I tried an electric beard trimmer. No irritation what so ever, but not extremely close. So I tried the wet dry electric shaver and that is the answer. It is still not as close as a regular shaver, but no irritation and that is what really matters to me. I cannot tolerate that itchiness and all those irritating little bumps. I have heard the more you shave the less the irritation, but who wants to risk that horrible itch... So I would say invest in a wet dry electric shaver.....

The best way not to deal with it but ever so often is to get a Brazilian Bikini wax..... Ummmm yes it hurts at first but its fast and lasts a long time but if you want to shave make sure you use a conditioned shaving cream to limit irritation.

You shave this area exactly the same way you shave any other area of your body.
You use a moisturizer for a close even shave...you take care not to cut or nick yourself.
Not a mystery.

Woahhh, hold it. You definately shoudn't shave down there. First of all it will look gross and irritated no matter what, you'll have to shave it everyday, and it will be extremely itchy if you let it grow. The best thing to do is wax, it doesnt hurt as much as you think and it will look and feel 1000 times better, dont be shy to get it done either, plentyyy of people do.

After you shave, DEFINITELY go with Bikini Zone medicated aftershave cream. If you use it for the first few months you'll eventually notice you don't need to use it anymore. At least, it worked for me. This stuff is seriously the best stuff ever invented.
