just bought HP laptop with Vista and it did not include any software cd's. The only thing i have is a restore partion on my hard drive. As a rule of thumb I like to have a copy of OS to reinstall if needed. I thought i heard that the manufacturers had to send a cd if asked, is this true?

hp's come with a make restore cd's options that run only once, they will burn to cd or dvd depending on how big the preinstalled software

you should be able to create restore dvds look in your programs
