Do you want to know about underactive or overactive?
I have an underactive thyroid. I'm doing fine now because I found the right medication. When I first got diagnosed I had every textbook symptom. The treatment was Levoxyl. It lowered the TSH, but it did nothing for my symptoms. I did a lot of research on hypothyroidism and it eventually brought me to Armour. I'm about 95% free of symptoms now and I feel better than I have in over 10 years.
If you or a family member have a thyroid condition. Don't give up until you are almost completely symptom free. There are many treatments and if one isn't working for you search out others. Below are some thyroid links

my mom has been dealing with it since the 80's has had the thyroid removed 3, count them, 3 times. she has been on medicine for all these years. and has since grown a "goiter" behind her wind pipe, the size of a lemon, stupid Dr didn't scope it or do a cat scan, did a sonogram-sp-
well when he operated last time, he found what was in there, and there was so much existing damage, and scar tissue, and bruising from all that he had to remove this time, she ended up leaving with a trench. over all-not well.

i am hypothyroid and it is manageable, but as of right now it has been tough! i have no insurance so its been tough keeping up with my medication.one time i hadent taken any meds in a while and i was dragging bad!i went to work and just sat all day but when i am on my synthroid i feel very normal with energy, thats the best part.over all having thyroid prroblems can reck havoc on your body if you dont take care of it! believe me,i learned the hard way.so take your meds and dont ever skip doses.

you have to ask your doctor about the nuclear (?) treatment, is only one time and is not painful, no hospital or anything, later you have to take medicine for the rest of your life but is not a problem at all, you come back to normal.
