What should I do? She has started to whine whenever she wants something. Whatever it is, a biscuit, a toy...she just whines and will not stop.

Well ok guys-I'm not completely thick. Obviously I know when she wants to go outside or eat etc,- That's a dog owner's obligation to understand. I just wanted some tips on what you would do. However, if you want to lecture me on moral obligation or my lack of understanding for dogs, this is not the right place.

For the same reason small children whine when they want something. Because it has worked for them in the past.

It may be hard, but when your dog whines for something, walk away from her. Don't look at her, don't talk to her, ignore her completely.

When she is completely quiet, then pay her some attention.

She is trying to communicate with you. Whenver you give her what she wants, you are reinforcing her behavior, which is why she does it all the time now. For now on, you need to be careful about giving into her demands. If she is whining because she needs food, water, or to go outside, you need to respond to her. However, if she is whining for treats or toys, you need to just ignore her and NOT reinforce the behavior. Eventually, you will teach her to only whine for things she needs, not just things she wants.
By the way, you should really just leave a couple toys out for her at all times anyways so she doesn't get bored. It'll help you both out a lot!
Good Luck!!

I'm not too sure if you human psychology will work on dogs, but what if you just ignored the dog and kept on going with what you were doing. It'll probably give up and stop whining.

Speaking of biscuits, here's an awesome way to make some dog biscuits:

Dogs dont speak english, and much like a small child your dog is seeking your affection.
Maybe take some extra time each day for some 1 on 1 play and attention.

As far as the whining itself goes, again like a child, if you respond to it, she'll keep whining every time.
Make it on your grounds,show her the toy/treat, then have her sit and wait patiently and quietly for a few moments before handing it over.{Using the command "Patience" or "wait" helps too}
Make each time of waiting longer so she learns patience.

I have two dogs and both of them whine also when they want something. It's sort of annoying if they do it when I am busy doing something else, but I realsize that they are actually trying to communicate something to me. My answer to you is to accept the reality that your dog is "talking" to you and it's up to you to figure out what they want. My dogs "talk" to me if they need to go outside or if they are hungry. I've even noticed that one dog will whine because the other dog went pee on the floor that I can't see. I'd say to you this... your dog is trying to "speak" to you just like you probably speak to your dog. Eventually you will begin to understand what your dog is saying.

Dogs are just like small children in this sense: they whine whenever they want something and usually won't stop until they get it

don't give her anything she whines for. That's the best and fastest way to get it to stop.

To the bozo who advocates slapping the dog on the mouth while yelling no! Don't do that, unless you want your dog to be eternally afraid of you and your hands. That is the dumbest training method I've heard of and I've been teaching people to train their dogs for 12 years.

you have to train your dog, dogs dont know better, if it whines, start by yelling NO!, and giving it a little slap on the mouth, dont be afraid to be aggresive with it, drag it by the collar whenever it whines and keep yelling NO.
it should be trained in no time
