My 16 yr old abassian mix is losing fur in clumps. It can't be fleas or worms, we've treated him. The patch of baldness isn't red and it doesn't have scabs at the root either. he goes outdoors sometimes during the day. THis hasn't happend before. He is eating and drinking like normal and I haven't changed his diet. What should I do? besides taking him to the vet....

Old cats sometimes get hyperthyroidism. This can cause all kinds of weird things to happen.

He's old and getting bald. If the vet doesnt find any allergies, then thats it. A lot of long hair cats lose their hair past 15.

My Persian cat did the same thing, losing hair but seemed alright otherwise. I took him to the vet and found out that his organs were shutting down. I had to put him down. You should take him to the vet real soon I'm afraid. Especially because of his age. Sorry to say.

I would definately recommend that you take your cat to the vet, a cat of 16 years old should be examined and treated by your veterinarian. Good Luck.

Give him a raw egg, beaten lightly - every other day. I have a freind whose cat went bald in patches. She gave him raw egg as suggested by another "cat person." The raw egg regimen brought back her cat's fur. You might try it and see if it helps your kitty.
