Open a couple of credit cards for merchants (like JC Penny, Sears, etc) and buy stuff with them. Pay the credit cards off immediately and don't use them. When you open accounts and pay them off asap, you build your credit well.

Building a good credit can be done in various ways. If you are fed up of the collectors tirelessly chasing you to pay your debts or if you are disappointed at your loan application being turned down, because of absence of credit history, you should learn how to do build your credit. The most important thing to remember is not to buy unnecessary items. Do not convert your ‘want’ into ‘need’, as it can drag you deeper in debt. If you are looking to build credit and do not have any history, set your priorities properly.

Open a credit card, and take out a loan. Make regular payments. Your credit score is established by regular payments without any delinquencies. By paying off your balances all at once, you don't establish the same kind of credit rating as you would by making payments.

Just don't open too many. Every check into your credit can cost you credit rating points.

If you have a credit card, try purchasing things that you know you can pay off right away. Pay off your balance in full each month and this should help build up your credit score.
