At 21 over the speed limit do you guys know about the fine and points? Should I contest the ticket? Should I go to court? Is it true that if the cop doesn;t show I am off scott free? Will traffic school take it off my record and prevent my insurance from going up? Any info on speeding tickets in California is greatly appreciated.

The scheduled fine for 21 mph over the limit (actually 16-25 over) is approximately $266. (No, you won't find it on the citation--California citations do not work that way.) It is one point, as are all simple speeding tickets. If the officer does not appear on the trial date, you will get off scott free, but I would not bet on that happening. You will have a traffic school option, which will save the point and prevent insurance consequences. You have to pay the fine, an administrative fee, and the cost of traffic school. Most California courts accept online schools.

You should be getting most of this information from the court through the mail, but you may be able to take care of it online now.

Well the ticket will run you about $180 that is assuming you don't have any previous speeding tickets. I just mpaid my ticket and got it over with. You can go to court and contest it, but frankly a speeding ticket is hard to dispute, what is your proof? I have heard that if the police officer does not show you are off hte hook, but i have never contested a ticket so i am not sure. Traffic school may take it off your record and again it depends on your previous history. I'm not sure if traffic school will prevent your insurance rates from going up. I know that they don't go up as soon as you get the ticket, they go up if you cancel and then apply for new insurance. I believe a speedying ticket is worth 1 point.

Hope this helped, just pay the ticket and get it over with, lots of luck to you!
