Get a one year bible and set aside 15 minutes in the morning or before bed to read it. Good luck :-)

I recommend tackling the Bible by starting with either the gospel of Matthew, Mark, Luke, or John, then an Old Testament book, and then going in a random order to mix things up until you're through the whole thing.

You can also try reading 5 or so Psalms or chapters of Proverbs a day in addition to your regular Bible reading--it helps to break them up more and works because they don't need to be read chronologically or all at once to make sense.

Good for you and good luck with your endeavours!
By the way, reading the whole Bible will probably seem overwhelming at first; try to view the Bible as separate books rather than one massive book. Take with a healthy helping of prayer!

Cover-to-cover reading may be overwhelming to you. Two books that are worth choosing as a first reading from the Bible are the Gospel of John and the book of Romans. Throw in a few Psalms when you have some time. Find a Christian friend or a pastor who can help you as you read. Reading and spending time with other Christians will do you lots of good.

Huh? If you want to read your Bible, then sit down and read it. If you don't know where to start, the beginning is always a good place. Or you can hold the Bible in your hands, close your eyes, open the Bible, put your finger on the page, open your eyes, and where ever the finger has landed, there is the thought you should reflect on for the day.
The Bible is one of many books that can help you spriritually.

Before you go to bed at night read a chapter out of the bible. Even if it is only 5 minutes. It will start getting you into a routine. When you start reading more then you can get a chart that has you read the bible in a year. The old testament is read in the morning when you get up & the new testament is read in the evening when you go to sleep. Also pray about what you have read & if you have any questions ask God for the answers.

THE GENERAL EPISTLE OF
JAMES
CHAPTER 1
5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
6 But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.

It's all about translation. There are good bibles and there are not so good bibles. Just because a bible is popular does not make it a good bible. For instance The Message and NIV are very popular bibles and just trash.

Your average King James bible has been re-translated and re-interpreted so many times it's dodgey at best.

The Jerusalem Bible - not the New Jerusalem - is an excellent bible. It's a work of art! The first bible to come out with updates from the Dead Sea Scrolls. Tolkein was one of the translators.

Good stuff there.

Start in the New Testament. Read through from Matthew to Revelation. Then read Genesis. Then read the Psalms, then go back to the New Testament. Then read Proverbs, then read Job, then read Exodus through Deuteronomy; then read the New Testament. Then read Joshua through II Kings, then read Song of Solomon and Isaiah; then read the New Testament. Then read I Chronicles through Esther, then read Jeremiah; then read the New Testament. Then read Ezekiel through Malachi.
Then take a deep breath ,and start over.
In all of your reading, search for Jesus Christ

P.S. I recommend NIV or New King James for a beginner, as they are most readable.

The Gospels are a great place to start. Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. First 3 are very similiar, John is a bit different.

Why did you put it on Yahoo answers ? If you want to start reading the bible, just pick it up and read it. You don't need any permission.

Hi, we go through seasons in our walk with God. There's a season for reading and studying the word of God and there's a time to just walk with Him because we know enough to just get on with it. Do you think God brought this change of heart about in you? i think the poster Benny makes a good suggestion, setting time aside for prayer, or to put it another way just talk to Him and ask for His Holy Spirit to enable you to understand any scripture your not sure about...hope you will be blessed abundantly in this part of your journey with the living God.
