F A M I L Y

I ran into a stranger as he passed by,
"Oh excuse me please" was my reply.
He said, "Please excuse me too;
I wasn't watching for you."
We were very polite, this stranger and I.
We went on our way and we said goodbye.
But at home a different story is told,
How we treat our loved ones, young and old.
Later that day, cooking the evening meal,
My son stood beside me very still.
When I turned, I nearly knocked him down.
"Move out of the way," I said with a frown.
He walked away, his little heart broken.
I didn't realize how harshly I'd spoken.
While I lay awake in bed,
God's still small voice came to me and said,
"While dealing with a stranger,
common courtesy you use,
but the family you love, you seem to abuse.
Go and look on the kitchen floor,
You'll find some flowers there by the door.
Those are the flowers he brought for you.
He picked them himself: pink, yellow and blue.
He stood very quietly not to spoil the surprise,
you never saw the tears that filled his little eyes."
By this time, I felt very small,
And now my tears began to fall.
I quietly went and knelt by his bed;
"Wake up, little one, wake up," I said.
"Are these the flowers you picked for me?"
He smiled, "I found 'em, out by the tree.
I picked 'em because they're pretty like you.
I knew you'd like 'em, especially the blue."
I said, "Son, I'm very sorry for the way I acted today;
I shouldn't have yelled at you that way."
He said, "Oh, Mom, that's okay.
I love you anyway."
I said, "Son, I love you too,
and I do like the flowers, especially the blue."

FAMILY
Are you aware that if we died tomorrow, the company
that we are working for could easily replace us in
a matter of days.
But the family we left behind will feel the loss
for the rest of their lives.
And come to think of it, we pour ourselves more
into work than into our own family,
an unwise investment indeed,
don't you think?
So what is behind the story?
Do you know what the word FAMILY means?
FAMILY = (F)ATHER (A)ND (M)OTHER (I) (L)OVE (Y)OU

Thank you so much for the beautiful poem. You have inspired me. I printed it and it is now on the top of my papers that seemed so important just before reading it. I wish you a life filled with all the love you just tried to pass on. God Bless!

Your story reminds me of apoem I wrote afew years ago: I"M SORRY

More powerful than a volcano
More dangerous than an iceberg
More shocking than an earthquake
Three little words, I love you.

We spend all our lives
Nursing hate and malice
We waste precious time
Fetching nasty baggage

What do we teach our kids
When we show such hate
To our beloved ones
Our immediate relatives

What an example we set
For those around us
No wonder our world
Is in such a sad state

The time is now fool
To reach out with love
With eager clasped hands
And say, I’m sorry.

Say what a stubborn jackass
You have been all these years
Say I can be such a bleddy fool
And just say I love you

Only when you confess
Then you can have peace of mind
Use all that wasted energy
Channel it for your own good

What are you waiting for?
What would it take
To replace your hate
With pure precious love?

Thank you so much for the reminder. I guess the tears I'm crying represent my need to be more compassionate with those I love the most. You have blessed many lives today and I thank you for blessing mine. May your life always be richly blessed and filled with happiness and hand picked flowers! God Bless You! Annie

That is sad. About two years ago I realized the same thing. I would do anything for anybody, no matter the inconvenience, but had no problem inconveniencing family to do so. I felt like such a loser when I realized it. I try really hard to change that every day. This poem puts it perfectly- thanks for posting it!

My husband grew up in a house with a father like yours. My husband has been to therapy considering he became an grownup to help him manage the emotional themes that this style of ecosystem leads to. check out the web pages that I easily have listed in my aspects. i'd advise having your mom have a glance besides. the biggest challenge right it really is that you and your sisters opt for to get out of this ecosystem. commence documenting each celebration of abuse (actual or verbal) with the date, time, and the outline of the incident. when you've solid documentation, take it to an grownup at your college or to someone you may believe. believe me, staying there to stay away from making your mum or dad offended with you isn't properly absolutely worth the emotional toll that it's going to handle you.
