My cat is 10 years old, and her original colour is smokey blue, with white under her belly, but lately her back has been turning kind of a light red colour, it's really pretty, but I don't know why she's changing colours! She's an indoor cat if that has anything to do with it.

Changes in the blood protein makes the hair turn to a reddish color. Hair contains a lot of protein, and a lack of it changes how it grows. A cat (or any other animal) may lose protein if she has kidney or liver failure, or have intestinal damage that is preventing her from absorbing protein like she should.

Some medications change the chemistry in the saliva and may make her hair stain reddish when she grooms (ie. some steroids and antibiotics). Hormonal imbalances may also change the chemistry of the saliva. You should taker her to your vet, where he/she will do a complete physical exam and may also do some bloodtest and/or analysis of the urine. This may be just a normal aging change, or can be something serious. Better be safe!

You should take her to the vet. She could have an internal problem. At l0 years old I'd say any changes would invite a vet visit. Hope all is okay.
