Actually, the smell is of the actual alcohol being emitted from the transfer from the blood steam into the lungs.
really the only way to avoid this oder of alcohol is to either drink very little, or none at all.\

Vodka itself doesn't leave a smell. There's a trick of homeless people that I heard once. Some drink vodka straight because then people can't smell it on them. It's the mixers that leaves any scent. I.E.--Cranberry juice, orange juice, tonic, etc. I'm curious about why you need to mask the smell of it though...if you're old enough to drink and are not a recovering alcoholic, I don't understand why you'd need to. But to each his own...
Also, someone above was talking about a minty liquor. I would assume it's Rumpleminz. I absolutely can't stand it, only because I don't like that powerful of a mint flavor. But it does leave you feeling like you just brushed your teeth.

use tongue scraper, after drinking vodka, scrape your tongue. 80% of germs that make breath smell are on the tongue, and underneath the tongue, so just scrape on your tongue, and underneath it. But, if you a tongue scraper at hand suck on about 3 sheets of those Listerine pocket-pack paper-like things. Or chew about 3 pieces of Orbit gum, it's makes your mouth have that "just-cleaned" feeling. Or for a more reliable fix spurt toothpaste into your mouth put some water inn your mouth and gurgle, try to probe the toothpaste with your tongue, so your tongue'll get clean. Listerine mouthwash is good but who carries around a whole big bottle of Listerine? Toothpaste is small! The best way to mask the smell though, is not drinking it! but if you must, just follow the above!

Vodka leaves your breath strong with alcohol. Breath strips work ok, but are obvious. Eat something with garlic, it will mask almost any smell on your breath but then you'll have garlic breath, lol, good luck!

Some people say drink coffee. But if you have a toothbrush and a travel size toothpaste brush your teeth AND your tongue.....I guess that's the only way.
