what would you use to make soup?
a blender or food processor?

Both, though you need to be careful not to overfill the food processor before starting - the consequences do not bear thinking about! Do it in batches and return the processed soup to a clean, dry pan.

I would use the blender because it's easy to forget that if you pour ingredients above the top of the blade holder on a food processor you'll end up with a mess. You need to be careful with a blender too, but if you fill it about three inches from the top you can start on "low" and be pretty assured the soup won't spiral out of the top [as long as you have the lid on, mind you!]

A blender (maybe 'cause I haven't a food processor).

I use a hand held blender - far less cumbersome and you can wash it up easily too.

I tend to pour my soup into a large glass bowl for blending, rather than doing it in the pan - that way I can see if it's completely smooth or not all the way to the bottom!

Assuming that you had both appliances then a blender is preferable as it has more blades for finer chopping (IMHO) But if you only have a food processer then the result will be perfectly acceptable - if you want a super result, push it through a sieve afterwards to make the mush even finer.

I don't have a food processor, so I always use a Moulinex hand blender. It's fine as long as the ingredients are well cooked & soft. I did once try using a sieve & it took forever & the sieve was a bugger to clean.

I'd actually use an Immersion Blender. It's handheld and you can puree the ingredients right in the soup pot as much or as little as you like with less mess.

Blender! If youre yet to buy one, i think blenders are smaller in size and less costly!
