I have a 12 yr old spayed female who has been on Feline WD most of her life because of recurring urinary problems. She's actually only had a few recurrances. Just yesterday she was in obvious pain, and moving like something in her back end hurt. Rushed her off to the vet. All test came back fairly normal. when they expressed urine from her, it was totally clear, with no odor. Odd for a cat. Renal tests were ok, thyroid ok. Even white count is ok. He put her on antibiotics, gave her IV fluids over night for dehydration. She's home now, but still in pain. Just lays in her box/bed. She's also lost 4 pounds in the last year. Anyone have any experience with something like this? I've already spent $400 on her. Next up is ultrasound, if the antibiotics don't work. Any ideas?

If this continues and becomes Chronic sometimes the vet will prescribe Prednizone as a catch all. You may never know what is causing the pain it may be just inflammation from an unknown origin, Prednizone will not hurt her especially since her kidney test and other labs were normal. You may ask the vet to maybe do a trial on Prednizone before doing any more very expensive tests.
I have owned cats 1 with spinal nerve damage 1 with Irritable Bowel, 1 with Kidney Failure, 1 with Cancer, 1 with Food Allergies and 1 with Asthma and Prednizone was helpful for all of them.....So when you have a pain with possible inflammation it might help

It sounds like you have done the normal things. Has anyone checked the cat's blood surgar. Although the cat's kidney functions have come backed normal, with an acute (sudden) spike in blood sugar, the urine might be less concentrated. I am sure that if blood was drawn, they should have looked for this, but sometimes it is missed. Make sure you ask about diabetes. This is not that uncommon in the feline. I would definitely make sure that someone at least looks down that avenue. My cat had acute pancreatitis and it was treated before hand, but not until $4,000.00 later, did I find out about diabetes and pancreatitis. Getting the ultrasound early is great. It will be expensive, but a good thing to rule out some tumors. Just because their blood count is normal does not mean that they don't have cancer. It is something to think about. I hope that everything goes well for you. Good Luck!

I'm as puzzled as you and the vet.

With the white count being fine you've pretty much ruled out cancer. Which would have been my guess after the renal test and urine came back fine.

I'm sure you and the vet must have palpated her to try and locate the sore area and make sure it wasn't something local like a bug bite or broken bone. (never hurts to ask the obvious) My only other thought would be perhaps a pinched nerve. Has she ever been tested for feline leukemia?

I do hope that you find the answer soon, sounds like you have a very good vet working on it.

With everything that is done to her......I absolutely have no idea. I'm glad that the urine is clear of any phosphate crystals. So the only thing you can do, is try to make her more comfortable. Is she still eating? You know something is very wrong when an animal quits eating and drinking. Hate to say this, but she is 12 years old....and maybe her time is soon to be up. If she continues to stay in a lot of pain, then it may be time to consider euthanasia. I absolutely hate that, but I won't let one of my animals suffer either. So you'll have to judge, if you think her quality of life is going down. I really hope you don't have to do this and that she gets better soon. I wish you the best of luck.

has she been tested for diabetes? this is very common at the office where i work. this can be controlled with insulin. she will need to be test, and then if she has it the doctor can prescribe her insulin. i think the insulin is around $35 to $40 a month.
