I posted a question out here a week ago in the Food category that asked of people WHO KNEW BOTH, which pastrami and pastrami sandwiches they preferred: New York or Montreal ("viande fumee") kinds. Of those who answered 100% -- ONE HUNDRED PERCENT --said they preferred Montreal!!! As one who always will get to Katz' when in the Big Apple and is familiar with NY boasting about its pastrami (though I much like Montreal's, too),
I was so surprised there was not at least a couple of New York partisans. Et tu?

I live in New York and think Katz's pastrami is the best. I never, ever order pastrami when I'm out of town (got talked into that once in San Diego - yuck). I've never tried the pastrami in Montreal. it probably wouldn't occur to me, and this could be the case with other New Yorkers at Yahoo Answers.

I did try the bagels at St Viateur(sp?) in Montreal and they were fantastic - as good as any bagel in New York.

Katz's--"Send a salami to your boy in the army."

You know Katz's is very well-known for their yummy and huge pastrami sandwiches, but, since it's on the lower east side--inconvenient to get to for a lotta people--is considered a Jewish establishment (God forbid the goyim should enter such a place), there ARE people who are unaware of it. Last time I was there, I wasn't so thrilled with my sandwich--for such a place as Katz's, some dum-dum cut the corned beef in the WRONG direction! (doesn't taste as good, and so chewy, it is soooo sub-par and just plain unpleasant. I should've sent it back....). And, it just didn't taste so great that day. I like Ben's Best, myself, but Katz's will always have my ethnic soul and comfort food.

Hmm, I have no idea what a Canadian pastrami sandwich is...

I didn't know there were too different kinds of pastrami, but if it isn't from the Carnegie Deli, it isn't real!!!!
Ok, you like Katz's I can live with that, but really, the Carnegie is more money but so much better.
