I want to date someone my family might not like. There is nothing wrong with this person period. He is the best, but they will not like him because his religious beliefs are different. He is hindi. What can I do to help them understand. They say they want to meet him and will accept him but will they really? Has anyone else ever had this problem? If so, please explain...

My advice to you is to do some research on the Hindi culture and their religion. We have all seen in the past what has happened to some women and their children when they married into different sorts of religion. Some of these religions have very strict rules and laws where woman are concerned. Check these out and see if you could abide by them happily. This is probably the reason why your parents would not be happy about this association between you and this man because in some cases the woman has to give up all her rights and freedom. It has been known in the past, that some of these men have set the wife on fire because she did not obey him or pleased him at the time, and nothing was done to him for doing so, because in their eyes, it was his right to do so. Could you live with that.

You said your parents said they would like him, yet you say they wont which leads me to believe you are hiding the fact that he is hindu.Do your parents have strong religious beliefs? If religion to them means nothing more than what color socks you choose for the day, then it wont be a problem. The real issue tho is what do YOU believe?2 religions in the same house only works when the religions mean nothing. When both are endeared to their beliefs they will not change them for the other spouse. What religion will you raise your kids? The purpose of dating is to find a suitable spouse. If you are willing to convert to any religion whole heartedly, then date who you want.If not where will you draw the line ?

Well, first of all if you are still living at home you do have to respect your parents decisions, but you don't have to let them run your life.
If you are not living at home then it shouldn't matter, I mean I know it is important for most people for their family and their other half to get along, but at the end of the day you can either be with the one who makes you happy or you can be all alone, but that is your choice.

I don't think they will (or should) be angery. If they are their the ones who are wrong. You NEED to find out why they may not like his religious beliefs and if the reason is, maybe 2 do with 9/ 11 explain that muslims are not hindus. hundus mainly live in india, muslims in Pakastan. the guys that crashed into the towers were from our allie *spelling* Suadi Arabia.
MY mom used to date a guy from Africa she dumped him cos my unc (out of love) said he could divorce her in public by sayin 'i divorce u' 3 times; and that's that. Ur mom and dad could be worried that happen or it may clash with ur families beliefs.
hope i helped! :)

Tell your parents you are dating him. If they get angry, explain to them that they shouldn't be angry. They should be happy that you found someone you love. Then have them meet him.

HEAR AND HEED THE BIBLE:
2 Co 6:14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?

ask your mom if your dad believed in another religion would she still have married him and vice versa. the point is it doesn't matter if you have different hair color or eye color or in your case religion as long if he's nice and you love him stick with your heart.
