My husband fixed this problem in one week. He is the daughter's hero after all. I hope I can describe this in words:Get a paper bag and go into her room no light (monsters don't like light that's why they stay in the closet) You tell her this and tell her he is going to catch them and put them in the bag. He holds the bag and snaps his fingers on the bag each time he gets a monster. I thought he was brilliant and she thought he was her Knight in shining armor.

My daughter was 2 or 3 when Monsters, Inc. came out in the theatres. For some reason it made great sense to her, and she stopped worrying about monsters/boogie men/etc. Perhaps you can watch this movie together, and talk about what she thinks monsters do.

She's five, and has a wonderful imagination right now. Telling her monsters don't exist is not going to work. But getting her to see them in a different light might do the trick. Good luck.

You could give her a teddy bear or something and tell her that it keeps away monsters. The rhyme sounded like a good thing too. She needs some sense of security to help her sleep, so try to find something that fits with her and if you have to try a few different things, go for it! It's all about her feeling safe and knowing that her daddy will help her when she is scared.

the bag thing and rymn would probably work but if you would like another suggestion: Anytime she gets scared hold her hand and ask her where the mosters are then, while keeping the lights off because the don't like them, look in those places with her to show her there are no monsters there. It will probably take a little while of doing this but eventually she won't be so scared anymore

My children were scared of monsters coming into the bedroom at night until they watched Disney's Monsters Inc. Once they saw that the monster was more scared of them then they were of it they were fine. It doesn't hurt to hang a small fairies bell over the cupboard door which will alert them if a passing cupboard monster should happen to try and gain access!

I had the same problem with my 5 yr old for a while. Eventually we made up this little rhyme where we asked the faires and other magical creatures to come and watch over her as she slept and banished all the bad things from the room. She thought it was a fantastic ritual and soon got over it.

Just take something you know your daughter loves and try to use it. It worked for me.

Sometimes leaving the lights on helps. Explore the room with her. Also a prayer helped my kids Here is mine : Now I lay me down to sleep I pray thee lord my soul to keep guard me through the starry-night and wake me safe with sunshine bright. Try this as a song too.

if letting her fall asleep on the lounge is isn't a problem to you then i would continue what you are doing now.. how ever you could make it into a game like when its bed time you could pretend to "exterminate" the monsters. or leave a night light on for her like one that plugs into the power point and tell her that the monsters hate the light and they wont come near her if the night light is on.

My daughter and i pretend to eat them...i know it sounds funny but she has lots of fun and it makes her not scared anymore. She pretends to pull whiskers out of her teeth and stuff....its silly but she totally buys it. Also, try filling a spray bottle with water. Then, add confetti to the water. It looks like "magic water" and tell her its like bug spray. It won't make a mess cuz its just water and the confetti won't come through the nozzle. Just a thought...
