Was in the chatroom when someone was talking kind of dirty. I left the room and was later confronted by that chatter. Said I was putting her down by leaving the room. I asked another chatter if what i did was wrong and he told her about what i asked. Now they r accusing me of gossips by saying she talked dirty. Am i to be blamed?

Jan,
It doesn't sound as if you did anything wrong. Leaving a chat is your right and it isn't a put-down unless you say something like "You suck, I'm leaving." before you go.

You're allowed to walk away when someone is talking or acting in a way that makes you uncomfortable... in person or online. It's also okay to check things out with someone else... the fact that the person you asked went to the "chatter" isn't your fault and- by the way - makes HIM the gossip.

As for the "chatter", I suspect the problem is she didn't feel so terrific about her behavior and your walking away made her feel worse (not your fault or problem)

People often become hyper-defensive... even aggressive and attacking when they feel even the slightest hint of remorse over their own actions. That's not your problem and your best bet is to simply steer clear of such people.

Don't enter into a debate with them... just move on knowing that you, at least, have some personal integrity.

Oh my gosh. First of all you were in a chat room. Freedom of Speech. If they do not like what you did or what you say they are just people typing to a monitor. They are not your friends. I mean maybe they are in that case talk to them personally. Otherwise honey I would not worry about it. I mean there might be rumors floating around Yahoo about me. I do not care. That is the way that you need to be. By the way, How old are you?

No, you weren't gossiping, because you were asking about YOUR actions, not spreading information about other people.

But this is probably a good sign that you should spend less time in chat rooms, and more time working on interpersonal communication in a real-world setting.

Oh how confrontatioanl people get when they can hide behind the annonymity of a computer! Tell her to go *%$@ herself. You did nothing wrong and she is just trying to stir up some controversy and is obviously VERY immature!

No, you are not to be blamed. You did the correct thing by leaving the room.

Just ignore her. She's trying to push your buttons.
