They do everything that a traditional police do. Arrest suspects, enforce laws, including traffic violations, and provide perform access control to the post and other restricted areas. Crimes happen on post like they do in every day life. MPs deployed in a war zone (The war on terrorism now) provide convoy protection, gather intel and pursue terrorist. Search for weapons caches, protect soldiers from each other and guard detainees.

MP's in the Army do many different things. The pull guard duty. They act as police officers just like civilian cops. They have canine units, they make arrests, give traffic tickets, etc. They also go to war and serve perimeter guard. The work as jailers in the military jail systems. They guard airfields. As you move up in rank, you have opportunities to work as detectives, in the CID. They are also, always, soldiers first, MP's second. As to where you may be stationed, anywhere. MP's are everywhere that there are soldiers. Good luck!

Well as an Infantrymen in an MP unit (I go to re-class school at the end of March) I can tell you that it all depends on what type of MP your going to be. There is the garrison and the combat support. Garrison units do the whole lights and sirens thing. The combat support units go out into the field and help other units out when they are needed. Then there is the CID,Criminal Investigation Department, They are the guys that bust other soldiers for criminal activities. They go under cover and perform stings as well as report cases of hazing.
