White (10th)
Yellow (9th)
Orange (8th)
Purple (7th)
Blue (6th)
Green (5th)
Green (4th) II stripes
Brown (3rd) III stripes
Brown (2nd) II stripes
Brown (1st) I stripes
Black (1st dan) I stripe
each dan add another stripe, in Kenpo a 5th dan (master) uses a block..a 5" solid red piece at each end of the belt. A 7th dan for example would have the 5" piece of red plus 2 red stripes on top of that space 1/2 " apart.
Some styles use white or gold on there black belts, some may even use red to replace the brown belt.
In Tang Soo Do the belt system go like this:
White (10th & 9th Gup)
Orange (8th & 7th Gup)
Green (6th, 5th & 4th Gup)
Red (3rd, 2nd & 1st Gup)
Black (midnight blue) 1st dan with white stripe. A red stripe runs the length of the belt once you reach 4th dan, a TSD Master.

That depends upon the style you are studying. Usually about six or seven belts before Black. In some, Red immediately precedes Black, while in others it's Brown.
Some, like Muay Thai, do not have a belt ranking system.
BTW: it's ok that you asked. I didn't get the chance to answer when it was asked previously. :)

As people said, its different and some don't even have belts really.
World Tang Soo Do
White
Orange
Green
Brown
Red
Blue
Black
Colored belts just keep you interested though. Many people probably couldn't handle having no belt or sticking to one for 4-7 years.
Helps the instuctors know where you are at if you have multiple ones or the classes are really large.

commonly, TKD ranks scholars very at the instant. that is not unprecedented for persons to have a black belt in below a three hundred and sixty 5 days. by technique of no means are those human beings qualified for that rank. it particularly isn't a flaw of TKD as a sort, yet of ways it particularly is often taught. you're superb suited that the time required to get carry of the rank of black belt relies upon on countless components, inclusive of the practitioner. whether, i may be suspicious that any one claiming to have carried out black belt in below 5 - 6 years isn't qualified.

That depends on which martial art you are in and in some it depends on how old you are.
For example, in Judo, seniors (17+) have:
White
Yellow
Orange
Green
Brown (3 degrees)
and Black
Juniors (under 17) have additional Blue and Purple belts in between Green and Brown.
