were kids disrespectful as much as they are now? Was the world so messed up as it is now? Were people afraid of a dark parking lot? Were people afraid to let their kids roam around the block? I know it wasn't perfect back in the day, but it sure was better, and let me tell you why....Alot more people put their faith in God and lived the way the Bible taught. But then one day someone decided they knew better then God and tried to do things the way he thought was right...and look where it has gotten us. You can say we live by trial and error, but life was much better back in the day....And we cannot forget our country was founded on faith.

Sadly, you are right. It is up to us, the Church, to bring back those days as much as we can.

There are actually MORE "faithful" people in the US today than there were in the 50's and before.

We have a problem with looking back on the way the world "used to be" because we often fall into a nostalgia trap. Our feelings about the world when we were naive and easily impressed (when we were young or children) are strong and very often positive. Those feelings color how we feel about the time period even if it was the worse decade ever recorded. So, I necessarily think very fondly on the late 80's and early 90's because I was young, idealistic, and impressionable. It doesn't mean that that time was any "better" or "worse" than today.

For example, my dad always talked about the 50's and 60's as some great time when you could leave your doors unlocked, the kids played on the street until the street lamps came on, and people were friendly to their neighbors. But he also accurately describes my childhood in the suburbs in the late 80's and early 90's.

Be careful that you're not falling prey to nostalgia.

The country was actually founded on the ideas of life, liberty, and the pursuit of property after decade of statutory neglect from England. If this country had been founded on faith, then wouldn't the system of government be a theocracy instead of it's present form as a virtual representative democracy?

We're things really better back in a time when slavery was legal?

The world was just as messed up. But the media wasn't o quick to report it.

Kids were abused by their parents more. Physically and Sexually.
Women were beaten, raped, and treated like chattel. Divorces even in these cases of abuse were rare, so she was trapped.
Minorities were considered subhuman and had virtually no rights. Beatings of Gays or Blacks were common.

All those things were socially acceptable, and the church made no objections.

Oh, yea. Life was SOOOO much better back in the day.

I dont think back in the day was "better" because Church was a big part of our country. I believe that back in the day we respected our parents. I wouldnt have even thought about talking back to my parents or my Dad would have whooped my A$$.

Today parents are labeled abusers if they even think about punishing thier kids. Kids need authority, love, and encouragement. If the parents dont give them this then you have kids look to other not-so-good sources for these things. Then these kids turn into adults.

Actually, we have less to fear now than at any time in our history. People weren't afraid to let their kids around the block but more of those kids were injured, kidnapped and killed. Check the numbers. Faith has nothing to do with it, you are buying the media's drivel about blood, gore and fear. It isn't real, we are healthier than we have ever been, we are safer than we have ever been. We no longer give someone who claims that "the devil made me do it" an exorcism instead of prison. We no longer believe that our children are safe with repressed priests or other lonely adults, we take better care of ouselves and our children...all thanks to science. Our country was founded on the belief that we all have the right to worship who, what and when we choose. We are living better than we ever have, but since you believe whatever you are told, on TV, in church, I don't expect you to see or understand it.

No, everything was much better when the movies were like Boys Town and The Bells of St. Mary's. The majority of the country was Catholic back then too. The Real Catholic Church.

IN some aspects you're right but another aspect the good old days represents to some of us riding the back of the bus, or if you want to go back further, we'd be in shackles and some of us would be raped by our masters.

So, NO some of us do NOT long for the good 'ole' days.

Our country was founded on religious freedom. Why do you think they came here -- to avoid religious persecution. Your so called Christian nation is responsible for having people believe that they can behave however they want, repent, be saved, and do it again.

No thanks. I don't want to go back to a time when women couldn't vote, own property, go to college, or hold a job that made real money.

Not to mention a time when slavery was legal.

That is drivel. Europeans are much less religious than Americans, but you are far safer on the streets of any large European city than you are in a corresponding American city.
